Elwood Oceanography Center
Seattle, Washington
Situated on the eastern edge of Lake Union's waterfront in Seattle, Washington, the Elwood Oceanography Center offers an innovative hub for scientists, tourists, and locals alike to collaborate in the discourse revolving around climate change and oceanic discovery. The program includes a double height innovation lab for collaboration, a myriad of workshop types each designated for tasks like 3D printing scale models and parts, welding, wood-working, and repairing damaged equipment. Additionally the program requires dedicated offices for engineers, scientists and building employees, a dock-side “messy room” for unloading equipment and specimen collection samples to test. For the sake of public integration, a multi-functioning library, waterfront cafe, and an interactive art/information exhibit establish potential for this space to become an inclusive fixture on the shoreline of Lake Union.
