Kimbell Art Museum Study

Fort Worth, Texas

Perhaps one of Louis Kahn’s most celebrated projects, the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas choreographs a perfect dance between natural and artificial light. The proper light adjustments can greatly enhance a persons interaction with an artwork. Because we cannot rely solely on outside conditions, an adjustable lighting strategy is essential for ensuring that the proper illumination is provided. This study was conducted by visiting the museum, breaking out the measuring tape, and getting to the bottom of the shapes and lighting conditions in order to better understand the magic behind the combination of lighting strategies.
